Hardware versions
There are several versions of the Archos 7 Home Tablet:
- Archos Home Tablet 7 v1. OS is Android 1.5 (AKA CupCake) model number A70HB.
- Archos Home Tablet 7 v2. OS is Android 2.1 (AKA Eclair) model number A70BHT.
- Archos Home Tablet 7c. OS is Android 2.1 (AKA Eclair) model number A70CHT.
Rebranded for Carrefour french shops :
- Carrefour CT7-FR, based on the v1 but with 4 GB built-in. OS is Android 1.5 . Identified in the firmware as "Touch Tablet".
Released dates
- Archos Home Tablet 7 v1 : may 2010.
- Archos Home Tablet 7 v2 : december 2010.
- Archos Home Tablet 7c : april 2011.
- Carrefour CT7-FR, based on the v1 : december 2010.
Firmware
Check carefully the version of your "home tablet" hardware before you try anything with firmware. The V1 ("old") and the V2 ("new") versions are not compatible !

- Storage : Storage expandable up to 40 Gb through micro SDHC.
- Accessories by Archos : USB Host Adapter in specs, not seen yet.

- Android market : currently, there is no official support (we lack the Google-required compass, dedicated buttons, and so on), but an unofficial marketplace patch exists, which will allow access to the free applications on the marketplace (Paid applications require further modification, see example here).
- Internet browser built-in : Webkit (+ Squirrelfish)
Audio codec support
The Archos Media Center (AMC) is capable of decoding the following codecs:
- AAC (except protected content) - available as a free plugin
- AAC+ stereo audio files
- with paid plugin: AC3 stereo audio and 5.1 sound files (via SPDIF output of DVR Station)
- Note: An image in the folder of your music files named Folder.jpg will ensure that the Archos Media Center (AMC) software displays your album art. Android's music app, on the other hand, wants album art to be embedded into the music file.
Video codec support

The Video Player is capable of decoding the following codecs:
- H.264 Base/Main/High Profile up to 720p resolution - 30fps / 2.5 Mbps
- MPEG-4 Part 2 ASP (i.e. Xvid/DivX) - 30fps / 2.5Mbps
- Realvideo(TM) up to 720p resolution - 30fps / 2.5Mbps
